Audi’s China-exclusive electric vehicle (EV) brand, AUDI, has officially unveiled its second model, the E7X SUV. The launch, announced via the SAIC-Audi app and website, positions the E7X as a high-performance competitor in the rapidly growing Chinese EV sector. The vehicle builds upon Audi’s recent move to establish a separate electric-only brand for the Chinese market, distinct from its global lineup.
Key Specifications and Performance
The E7X boasts impressive performance figures, including a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.97 seconds in its all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration. Power comes from a dual-motor setup delivering a combined 500 kW (670 hp), while the entry-level rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant offers a still-potent 300 kW (402 hp).
Underpinning the E7X is an all-aluminum chassis coupled with Audi’s quattro intelligent AWD system. Battery technology is supplied by CATL, providing a large 109 kWh capacity that enables a range of up to 751 km. The vehicle also incorporates a high-voltage 900V architecture for faster charging capabilities.
Design and Technology Features
The E7X stands out with its distinctive design elements, including an illuminated Audi logo and LED lighting patterns. The interior features a five-seat layout with a “ring light surface” dashboard and high-resolution digital projection headlights. Unique wheel designs include counterweights that keep the Audi inscription upright at all times.
The SUV is equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR system powered by Momenta’s latest Flywheel large model, supporting both high-speed and urban autonomous driving functions. This highlights Audi’s focus on integrating advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) into its EV offerings.
Strategic Importance for Audi in China
The E7X’s launch underscores Audi’s commitment to the Chinese market, the world’s largest EV market. By establishing a separate, China-only EV brand, Audi aims to cater specifically to local preferences and regulations. The move also allows Audi to sidestep some of the complexities associated with global standardization while maintaining a strong presence in a critical growth region.
This approach is not uncommon among global automakers looking to aggressively compete in China’s EV landscape, where local brands have gained significant ground. The E7X is expected to make its official debut at the Beijing Auto Show, signaling Audi’s intent to rapidly deploy its EV strategy in the Chinese market.
The AUDI E7X represents a significant step forward in the brand’s electric mobility ambitions, specifically tailored for the demands of the Chinese automotive industry. Its combination of high performance, advanced technology, and strategic positioning suggests Audi is serious about challenging established players in the EV space.
