The Australian mental health charity Drive Against Depression (DAD) will wrap up its 2025 event schedule with a Brisbane-based drive on December 7th. The event, designed to foster community and promote mental wellness, will kick off from Sunshine Ford on the Gold Coast and conclude at the Wynnum Ambulance Museum in Brisbane.
Event Details and Activities
Participants will embark on a scenic route, with a focus on creating a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. The event will feature insights from Queensland Ambulance Service personnel on handling mental health emergencies, a guided tour of the museum’s automotive collection, and a catered lunch.
DAD has partnered with Ford Australia to ensure an enjoyable experience, utilizing the Tourboss app to streamline navigation. A raffle, with a dashcam from Uniden as the prize, will also take place alongside a session with mental health professionals from Talked.
Why This Matters
DAD’s events are increasingly important given rising rates of mental health struggles, particularly during the holiday season when seasonal pressures can exacerbate existing issues. The organization’s approach – combining social activity with open discussion of mental wellbeing – is effective because it normalizes seeking support and reduces stigma.
The charity’s consistent growth over the past decade demonstrates a clear need for accessible mental health initiatives. By organizing car-focused events, DAD leverages an existing passion point to draw in individuals who might otherwise hesitate to engage with traditional mental health services.
Continued Support and Resources
The Brisbane drive marks DAD’s tenth event for 2025 and its second in Queensland this year. The organization is supported by industry figures, including CarExpert’s James Wong (Marketplace Editor) and founder Paul Maric, both former ambassadors.
“Whatever the end-of-year season means for you, we encourage you to take the time you need to look after your mental wellness.” – Drive Against Depression team
Registration for the event is open to all road-registered vehicles. For those in immediate crisis, Lifeline (13 11 14) and the Suicide Call Back Service (1300 659 467) are available 24/7. In emergencies, dial 000.
DAD’s ongoing commitment to building a supportive network underscores the growing recognition of mental health as a crucial aspect of overall wellbeing.
