Ferrari Recalls New V12 Supercars Over Tinted Windows

Ferrari is conducting a voluntary recall of 80 of its new 12Cilindri grand tourers sold in the United States due to a regulatory issue with window tinting. The problem, identified during pre-delivery inspections, involves rear and side windows that are darker than legally permitted under US safety standards.

The Issue Explained

US regulations require vehicle windows to allow at least 70% light transmittance for visibility and safety. Ferrari inadvertently installed windows with excessively dark tinting on US-bound 12Cilindri models. This was traced to a configuration error in the vehicle’s technical specifications.

The recall affects cars manufactured between October 4, 2024, and November 24, 2025. Ferrari estimates all 80 affected vehicles have the non-compliant windows, but no incidents or warranty claims related to the tint have been reported.

What Happens Next?

Owners will be notified starting May 15th, and dealerships will replace the tinted windows with legally compliant units at no cost. Ferrari has already corrected the issue in its production line to prevent further non-compliant vehicles from being shipped to the US.

Why This Matters

While the recall is not due to a mechanical or safety defect that puts drivers at risk, it highlights how even luxury automakers can make errors in regulatory compliance. This type of mistake demonstrates the increasing complexity of global vehicle standards and the need for rigorous quality control. It also shows that recalls can happen to even the most prestigious brands.

The fix is straightforward, but the recall serves as a reminder that meeting legal requirements is as important as performance and design.
