Genesis GV60 Magma: A New Era of Luxury Performance

The Genesis GV60 Magma is here, marking the debut of the Korean brand’s dedicated performance division. Positioned as a direct rival to high-performance EVs like the Tesla Model Y Performance and Porsche Macan Electric, the Magma isn’t just a faster GV60 — it signals a shift in Genesis’s identity.

Performance and Power

Under the hood, the GV60 Magma boasts a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT. In Boost mode, it unleashes 641 horsepower and 790 Nm of torque, rocketing from 0-62 mph in under three seconds and reaching 124 mph in just 10.9 seconds. Top speed is capped at 164 mph.

Genesis has carried over the virtual gearshift system from its siblings, which modulates the e-motors’ output to simulate gear changes in a traditional performance car. Paired with a synthetic engine soundtrack, it aims to create a more engaging driving experience.

The GV60 Magma delivers 601 horsepower and 740 Nm of torque in standard mode, with an estimated range of under 300 miles from its 84 kWh battery. Fast charging at up to 240 kW allows for a 10-80% charge in around 18 minutes.

Chassis and Handling Refinements

The Magma doesn’t sacrifice comfort for performance. Adaptive dampers, hydro-bushings, and tweaked suspension geometry aim to balance cornering stability with a comfortable ride. Three drive modes — Sprint, GT, and My — allow customization of the electronic limited-slip differential and stability control. A Drift mode is also available for controlled oversteer.

Active noise cancellation, sound-insulating glass, and reinforced door seals ensure a serene cabin experience. Upgraded brakes with monoblock calipers and larger discs are optimized for the car’s 21-inch wheels.

Aggressive Styling and Premium Interior

Genesis deliberately avoided the “boy racer” aesthetic of the Ioniq 5 N, opting for a more subtle yet aggressive design. The GV60 Magma features a bespoke bumper with larger air ducts for cooling and three new intake holes that will become a signature element of future Magma models.

It sits 20mm lower than the standard GV60, with flared wheelarches accommodating wider 275mm tires. A large rear spoiler is designed to generate downforce. The interior is trimmed with premium suede-like materials and orange contrast stitching. A unique steering wheel features vibrant orange buttons for drive modes and Boost activation.

Magma mode transforms the 27-inch panoramic display to show critical driving data: speed, motor and battery temperatures, and G-forces.

Market Arrival and Future Plans

The Genesis GV60 Magma is slated for a UK release in 2026, with an expected price range of £75,000–£80,000. This positions it slightly above the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and near the base price of the Porsche Macan Electric.

Genesis intends to expand the Magma lineup across its entire model range, making “Luxury High Performance” a central pillar of its brand evolution. The company highlights three core attributes for all Magma models: “Unspoken Dominance” in design, “Captivating Control” in handling, and “Sharpened Immersion” in the driving experience.

“Magma reveals a new facet of Genesis, one that elevates the brand towards true luxury through performance.” – Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis.

The GV60 Magma represents more than just a performance upgrade; it signals Genesis’s ambition to redefine luxury by injecting adrenaline into its DNA.
