Kia EV5 GT: New Performance EV Set for Brussels Debut

Kia is expanding its high-performance “GT” lineup with the upcoming EV5 GT, set to be unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show. This move signals Kia’s ambition to compete directly in the growing market for electric performance SUVs, offering a balance between power and practicality. The EV5 GT will join the EV6 GT and EV9 GT, along with the newly revealed GT versions of the EV2, EV3, and EV4, bringing Kia’s total GT offerings to five.

Power and Performance

The EV5 GT will feature a dual-motor setup delivering 302bhp and 480Nm of torque. This translates to a 0-62mph acceleration time of 6.2 seconds. While slightly less powerful than competitors like the Skoda Enyaq vRS and Volkswagen ID.4 GTX (both with 335bhp and a 5.4-second sprint), Kia is aiming to deliver engaging driving dynamics similar to the EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, known for their fun handling.

The EV5 GT will share its 81.4kWh battery with the standard EV5 Long Range model, suggesting a realistic range of around 300 miles. A less powerful 261bhp dual-motor variant will also be available.

Design and Features

Visual changes to the EV5 GT are expected to be understated, following the pattern of other GT models. Expect signature acid-green accents on brake calipers and interior trim, along with a dedicated GT alloy-wheel design. Kia will also offer a striking “matte Magma Red” exterior color option.

Market Positioning and Pricing

The EV5 GT is slated for release in the UK and Europe by summer 2026. Pricing is anticipated to start around £50,000, making it competitive with rivals like the Enyaq vRS and ID.4 GTX. For buyers seeking a more affordable electric performance option, the Vauxhall Mokka GSe provides a compelling alternative.

The expansion of Kia’s GT range underscores the growing demand for electric performance vehicles. This move positions Kia as a serious contender in a rapidly evolving segment, offering consumers more choice in the high-performance EV market.
