Toyota’s sixth-generation RAV4, one of the world’s best-selling SUVs, will arrive in the UK in March, exclusively with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) power.
The model builds on over 30 years of success, with more than 15 million RAV4s sold globally since 1994.
Performance and Powertrain
The new RAV4 features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an upgraded 22.6 kWh battery – increasing the electric range to up to 85 miles, among the longest in its class.
Charging can be completed in 30 minutes using a 50kW DC charger, or about three hours using an 11kW AC charger.
Front-wheel drive models produce 264 bhp (0-62 mph in 7.5 seconds), while four-wheel drive versions deliver 300 bhp (0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds).
Toyota has chosen to skip the standard hybrid version in the UK, as 80% of previous RAV4 sales were PHEV models.
Trim Levels and Features
The 2024 RAV4 will be available in four trims: Icon, Design, Excel, and GR Sport.
All models include a 12.3-inch driver’s display, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, heated steering wheel, powered tailgate, and advanced driver assistance systems.
- Icon: Adds 20-inch wheels, premium paint, synthetic leather/suede seats, and wireless charging.
- Excel: Includes a head-up display, leather seats, a JBL sound system, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
- GR Sport: Increases track width by 20mm, adds high-performance dampers and tuned springs, plus unique black 20-inch wheels and GR badging.
Design and Interior
The exterior design retains the upright proportions of the previous RAV4 but incorporates modern LED headlights similar to the Prius and bZ4X.
Inside, a new 12.9-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch driver’s display enhance the user experience.
Toyota has lowered the dashboard by 40mm and made the rear windscreen more vertical to improve visibility.
The new RAV4 maintains its dimensions at just over 4.6 meters long, offering over 500 liters of boot space.
Safety and Technology
Toyota has upgraded its Safety Sense features using the new Arene software platform, enabling over-the-air updates for faster responses and continued improvements.
New safety systems include front cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and a rear vehicle approach indicator.
The lane change assist has also been revised, and the pre-collision system has improved hazard recognition.
The 2024 Toyota RAV4 prioritizes plug-in hybrid efficiency and advanced technology, continuing its legacy as a reliable and popular family SUV.
