Ferrari Unveils Amalfi Spider: A 631bhp Open-Top Luxury Cruiser

Ferrari has expanded its front-engined V8 lineup with the release of the Amalfi Spider, a high-performance convertible designed to compete with rivals like the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster. The new model builds upon the Roma Spider, offering an exhilarating driving experience with improved aerodynamics and open-top comfort.

Powertrain and Performance

The Amalfi Spider features an upgraded twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 engine producing 631 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque. Despite the added weight of a folding roof mechanism—bringing the car to 1,556kg dry (86kg heavier than the coupé)—it achieves a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds, matching its hard-top counterpart.

Aerodynamic Enhancements

Ferrari prioritized maintaining the coupé’s aerodynamic profile in the Spider’s design. The hood now extends further over the rear deck, ensuring minimal disruption to airflow. A new active rear wing dynamically adjusts to generate up to 110kg more downforce at 155mph while simultaneously reducing drag by 4%. These tweaks, combined with existing aerodynamic improvements from the coupé, enhance stability and performance.

Comfort and Convenience

Passenger comfort has been a key focus, particularly with the top down. An electric wind deflector is integrated behind the rear seats, adjustable while driving to minimize turbulence. The soft top itself operates quickly, retracting or deploying in just 13.5 seconds —one of the fastest times in the market—even at speeds of up to 37mph.

Pricing and Availability

While official pricing has not been released, the Amalfi Spider is expected to carry a slight premium over the coupé’s starting price of around £202,000. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the coming months, making this one of the most anticipated luxury convertibles of the year.

The Amalfi Spider represents Ferrari’s commitment to blending high performance with open-top driving pleasure, offering a refined and exhilarating experience for those seeking a premium roadster.
