Stellantis Enlists Young Designers to Reimagine SRT Performance Models

Stellantis is expanding its “Drive for Design” contest, inviting students as young as kindergarten to conceptualize the next generation of high-performance SRT vehicles across its brands. The competition, now in its second year, aims to tap into fresh perspectives by challenging participants to envision future models for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.

Broadening the Creative Pool

Last year’s contest focused on future Chrysler designs, but the 2026 edition raises the stakes with a wider brief. High school students (grades 10–12) will compete alongside younger participants divided into three age groups: K–3, 4–6, and 7–9. This expansion reflects Stellantis’ desire to gather diverse input, even from very young potential automotive enthusiasts.

Why Now? A Return to Combustion

The timing is notable. Stellantis has recently doubled down on internal combustion engines, notably with increased production of the Hemi V8. Asking children to design SRT models suggests the company sees a future for high-performance gas-powered vehicles, despite industry-wide shifts toward electrification. This move could be interpreted as a deliberate nod to enthusiast demand or a hedge against uncertain long-term EV adoption rates.

The Challenge: Unleashing Fearless Design

Mark Trostle, VP of Ram Truck, Mopar, and SRT exterior design, emphasizes the contest’s spirit: “Designing an SRT vehicle means unleashing a fearless mindset and dreaming up performance-driven ideas that look fast even when they’re standing still.” This statement underscores Stellantis’ intention to provoke bold, unconventional concepts.

Entry Requirements and Prizes

Participants must submit designs in .pdf or .jpg format (max 11×17 inches). AI-generated images are strictly prohibited, ensuring originality and human creativity. Prizes include summer internships at the Ram and SRT design studio, alongside Apple iPad Pro and Apple Pencil awards. Winners will be selected from each Junior category, along with an overall winner and two finalists from the main contest.

This contest is more than a publicity stunt; it’s a strategic move to gather insights from a demographic often overlooked in automotive design. By engaging young minds, Stellantis could uncover truly innovative concepts that reshape the future of SRT performance.
