Toyota has introduced a new Nightshade edition of the Yaris Cross tailored for the Southeast Asian market, offering a darker, more aggressive aesthetic without a full-scale redesign. This update blurs the line between a trim level and a facelift, providing a visually distinct option for buyers in Thailand and potentially other regional markets.
Distinctive Exterior Styling
The Nightshade edition features a modified front grille with a partially covered design and body-colored trim behind the Toyota badge, creating a “Metro Stylish” look. Black 18-inch alloy wheels, dark window surrounds, and glossy black cladding on the lower body, skid plates, and spoiler contribute to a uniform shadowed appearance. Buyers can choose between Cement Gray Metallic or Platinum White Pearl paint options, both paired with a contrasting black roof.
Enhanced Interior Features
Inside, the Nightshade boasts a dark-themed cabin with synthetic leather upholstery and genuine leather accents on the door panels, steering wheel, center console, and gear knob. The trim is based on the high-spec Yaris Cross model and includes a fixed panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a 10.1-inch infotainment display, an electric tailgate, and Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite.
Powertrain and Pricing
The Southeast Asian Yaris Cross differs from its global counterpart by using the Daihatsu-developed DNGA architecture instead of Toyota’s TNGA-B platform. It is also larger, measuring 4,310 mm (169.7 inches) in length—130 mm (5.1 inches) longer than the European model.
The Nightshade edition comes exclusively with a self-charging hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5-liter Dual VVT-i petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a total of 110 hp (82 kW / 112 PS). Power is delivered to the front wheels via an E-CVT automatic transmission.
In Thailand, the Nightshade starts at 919,000 baht (approximately $28,800), making it the most expensive and visually striking variant in the Yaris Cross lineup. Standard models range from 789,000 to 899,000 baht ($24,700–28,100).
The Nightshade edition provides a fresh, darker aesthetic to the Yaris Cross without significant mechanical changes, catering to buyers seeking a bolder look in the Southeast Asian market.
