Volkswagen has unveiled a series of updates for its Multivan people-carrier, aiming to maintain its appeal in a competitive segment. The changes, previewed earlier this year, focus on exterior styling, trim options, and color availability. While the core mechanics remain largely unchanged, the revamped Multivan seeks to offer a more modern and visually striking presence.
Exterior Updates: A Wider Stance
The most noticeable update is a redesigned front end. New headlights with a revised LED signature and a wider gap between the bumper and radiator grille are intended to visually emphasize the vehicle’s width, giving it a more substantial look. Volkswagen also introduces new two-tone color schemes (candy white and solid gray, brown metallic) and, for the first time, a matte paint option.
Six of the existing 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs have been tweaked, and a new ‘Halmstad’ 19-inch wheel option joins the lineup. These updates are minor, but contribute to a more contemporary aesthetic.
Powertrain and Pricing: Continuity Expected
The Multivan will continue to offer familiar powertrain choices: diesel, plug-in hybrid, and a standard petrol unit (available only on the Style trim). Volkswagen has not yet announced revised pricing, but it’s likely to remain close to the current range. The base Life trim starts at £50,633, while the higher-spec Style reaches £62,293.
For buyers looking for savings, Volkswagen’s Auto Express Buy A Car service currently offers an average discount of nearly £4,500. This means consumers can still secure a competitive deal on the existing model while awaiting further details on the updated version.
Market Performance and Future Updates
The Multivan is a critical model for Volkswagen, serving as the direct successor to the Caravelle. In 2025, global deliveries surged by 31 percent to 38,700 units, indicating strong consumer demand.
Volkswagen promises further updates through late summer, with additional details expected to emerge leading up to the IAA Transportation show in Hannover in September. The Multivan, alongside the facelifted Caddy, will be on display at the event.
Volkswagen’s strategic approach prioritizes incremental improvements over radical changes. The refreshed Multivan retains its core strengths while offering enough visual and trim enhancements to remain competitive in the family vehicle market.
