Volkswagen is set to discontinue the current Touareg model, marking the end of an era for the large SUV. To commemorate this, the company is releasing a special edition, the 210TDI Wolfsburg Edition, arriving in Australian showrooms from March 2026. Priced at $124,990, it represents a $8700 increase over the outgoing 210TDI R-Line.
Key Features and Pricing Breakdown
The Wolfsburg Edition replaces the 210TDI R-Line as the top-tier diesel offering. All Touareg variants – including the 170TDI, 210TDI Elegance, and the plug-in hybrid R – will also receive ‘Final Edition’ interior enhancements.
The new Wolfsburg Edition boasts a substantial equipment upgrade over the R-Line, including:
- Panoramic sunroof
- 21-inch black Leeds alloy wheels
- Black exterior accents (roof rails, window surrounds, grille, mirror caps)
- Head-up display
- Dynaudio Consequence sound system
- Passenger seat memory function
- 4-zone climate control
- Power door latching
- Power-adjustable steering column with memory
Previously, these features were often bundled into expensive option packages. For example, the panoramic sunroof alone cost $3300, while the Sound & Comfort package (including head-up display and power door latching) was an $8000 add-on.
Color Options and Value Additions
Metallic paint is now standard on the Wolfsburg Edition, available in Silicon Grey and Grenadilla Black at no extra cost (previously a $2200 option). Meloe-blue is available for $700 (down from $2700), and a new exclusive Oryx White pearlescent finish is offered for $2000.
Powertrain and Performance
The 210TDI Wolfsburg Edition retains the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 engine producing 210kW of power and 600Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. This powertrain is unchanged from the R-Line model.
Looking Ahead: The Touareg’s Future
Volkswagen has confirmed that Touareg production will end soon, but the nameplate is not necessarily gone forever. Reports suggest a potential revival of the Touareg badge on a fully electric model by 2029. Despite declining sales—with 728 units delivered in Australia to the end of November, a 12.6% drop from last year—the Touareg will remain available in showrooms well into 2026.
As Volkswagen product boss Arjun Nidigallu states, the Wolfsburg Edition “places alongside the Touareg R as the heroes of the current generation model.”
The introduction of this final edition is a strategic move to maximize value for consumers before the model’s discontinuation. It offers a compelling package of luxury and exclusivity, providing one last opportunity to own a premium Touareg before the electric future arrives.
