Volkswagen’s ID. Cross: T-Cross Sized. Electric. Here.

The wait is over. The VW ID. Cross has officially arrived in Europe.

It looks surprisingly close to the concept shown last year in Munich. Not a shock. That concept looked like a finished product from the start. This is just the factory version.

Some of the edgy styling got toned down. The bumper and side cladding are less aggressive. Wheels are smaller. Tires sit higher on the rim. But the overall shape? That stayed. It carries the same silhouette as the concept.

Inside is where reality set in. Hard.

No more translucent plastic console. No indoor garden growing out of the center stack. Just standard AC vents and a regular dashboard layout.

But it isn’t bland. Far from it. The interior leans minimalist. Physical knobs control the climate. Real buttons live on the steering wheel. Even the window switches are on the driver’s door. A nice touch for a digital age.

Fabric covers the dashboard and doors. Supposedly adds a premium feel. You judge for yourself.

A 10.2-inch screen sits behind the wheel. A massive 12.9-inch touchscreen dominates the dash. Feeling nostalgic? You can swap to a retro dial mode. Think 1980s tech. It’s weird but available.

Under the hood? Or rather. Under the floor.

The ID. Cross sits on the MEB+ platform. Same bones as the ID. Polo and the Cupra Raval.

You’ve got three motor choices. All drive the front wheels.
– 85kW
– 99kW
– 155kW

Want the spicy 165kW GTI motor? Tough luck. Not in the Cross lineup.

Two batteries.
– A 37kWh net unit. Charges up to 90kW on DC fast chargers.
– A larger 52kWh option. Hits 105kW DC charging speeds.

Range depends on what you pick. Top configuration gets you about 427km. According to WLTP standards. Which means real-world numbers might differ. Usually lower.

Size matters?

It’s bigger than you’d think.

Compared to the petrol T-Cross, the EV adds length. And width. 45mm longer. 34mm wider. Total dimensions come in at 4153mm by 1794mm by 1581mm. Wheelbase stretches to 2601mm.

Space isn’t the bottleneck here.

The boot holds 475 liters. With a variable floor. Plus another 25 liters up front. That’s the “frunk.” Storage space many ICE SUVs ignore completely.

Features pile up on the higher trims.

Heated seats. Heated wheel. Massage function on the front thrones? Yes. Adaptive suspension. One-pedal driving.

Sound quality gets a boost from a 425W, 10-speaker Harman Kardon system.

Lighting is a big deal.
– LED matrix headlights.
– 3D LED tails.
– Illuminated grille and VW badges.

It looks alive at night.

Tech and Safety

Parking is almost done for you. Remote control parking via an app? Standard option. Automated parking too.

The new Connected Travel Assist brings the car to a halt at red lights. Not just slowing down. Stopping. Fully.

360-degree cameras surround you. Adaptive cruise control watches the road ahead.

Price tag starts at €27,990.

That’s roughly A$45,70.

Expensive. It costs about €3,000 more than the ID. Polo hatch. And more than the regular T-Cross SUV too.

So who buys it?

Europe gets the keys later this year. The UK is in too.

Australia? Silence. No word yet. Maybe we just get the Polo. Or maybe we wait another cycle. The door is closed. For now.
